Triathlon in Orihuela Costa on Sunday

200 athletes will be swimming, cycling and running on La Glea beach The Playas de Orihuela Triathlon will be taking place for the fourth year on Sunday, May 15th in Campoamor on La Glea beach from 10:30am. “It is a great way to promote our beaches to the participants and their families, as well as everyone who comes to see the event,” said Councillor Damaso Asensio. Organised by the Tragamillas Athletics Club, more than 200 athletes are expected in the different categories. The event will consist of a 750 metre swim, a 20 kilometre cycle and finally a 5 kilometre run. “The cycling section will be in the urbanisation itself, which alternates explosive climbs with technical parts, and the running race will start in the ravine, and go through the recreational area among the pine trees across a mixture of dirt and tarmac,” explained the Tragamillas Club President, Paco Belmonte. There will be seven different age categories from Cadete (14-15 years old) up to Veterans, with prizes for the first three in each one and the top three men and women. Two weeks of Tapas and Cocktails in Torre de la Horadada

Visitors on roller skates can get two for the price of one on Sunday! The third annual Torre de la Horadada Tapas and Cocktail route was inaugurated today, May 13th and will continue until May 29th. A total of 10 bars and restaurants and participating with tapas and a drink, or cocktails for just €2.50 each. Mayor Ignacio Ramos said visitors can enjoy two weeks of great value food and drinks in this privileged setting with great weather and excellent beaches. Everyone who comes to the roller skating classes on Sunday the 15th at the Hibernis Mare activities on Mil Palmeras promenade can also get a two for one voucher at the end of the session at 1pm. A map of all the participating places can be obtained from the Tourism Office the Town Hall or any of the bars and restaurants. The tapas will be available from 12pm-4pm in the day and 7pm-11pm in the evening. All the tapas come with a 20cl bottle of beer (with or without alcohol), a glass of wine, water or ‘tinto de verano’. By filling in your details on one of the maps and depositing it in one of the boxes in each of the bars, you can vote for your favourite tapas and enter a prize draw. Junior cyclists to race through Torrevieja this weekend

The competitors will set off from Orihuela on Saturday and race all around the Vega Baja The 14th edition of the Cycling Tour of South Alicante race will head for Torrevieja this weekend, May 14th-15th, which will be the finishing line for Saturday’s stage and also the start of the next stage on Sunday. This junior race, which goes all around the Vega Baja, will set off from Orihuela at 4:30pm on Saturday and is due to reach the finish in Torrevieja, by the Plaza de la Constitución on Calle Ramón Gallud, between 6:35pm and 6:50pm – depending on the speed of the racers after having covered 88.2km. Saturday’s sprints will be in Benferri and El Badén and the mountain prizes at Alto Vistabella and Los Carteros. Sunday’s stage will cover 90.36km, leaving at 10.25am from the Paseo Vista Alegre in Torrevieja with a neutralised section of 1.5km to the crossroads between Avenida Dr. Gregorio Marañón and Avenida Pinoso. The official start, at about 10:30am will be on Avenida Desiderio Rodríguez where it meets Calle Mar Menor. The sprints that day will be in Los Montesinos and Hurchillo (towards Torremendo on the CV-925) and the mountain prizes in Alto de Torremendo and Alto de los Pilones in Rebate. Five more years for Torrevieja water park

Aquopolis to pay Town Hall €250,000 per year and announces big investment in the facilities Torrevieja town council has approved an extension of its council with the Aquopolis water park, which modifies the annual fee the companies pays from €54,555 to €248,621, announced Councillor Fanny Serrano. She explained that this is good for two reasons, firstly because Torrevieja gets to keep an important tourist attraction and secondly because they will get more money for renting out the public land the water park is situated on.
