Orihuela, Torrevieja and Pilar get extra for being busy tourist areas

The Observatory for Commerce in the Valencian Community has sealed a “historic pact” on opening hours for shops.

It establishes that they can open for 38 “fiestas” (bank holidays) in Busy Tourist Zonas (ZGAT) from June 15th 2018 until the Sunday after Three Kings (January 6) 2019. Those in the ZGATs of Orihuela, Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada will get 40 days over the same period.

Shops in areas that are not ZGATs will be allowed to open on January 7th, March 18th, April 1st, July 1st, November 25th and December 2nd, 8th, 16th, 23rd and 30th.

Councillor for Commerce Rafael Climent said this was historic because all the members of the Observatory agreed. The proposal now has to be passed by the Valencian Parliament.
