Tragedy occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Cala Bosque beach

A boy aged 9 of British nationality died after running into another child when they were both playing football at Cala Bosque beach in Orihuela Costa on Tuesday, reported the Town Hall.

After the impact the child fell unconscious to the floor.

It happened just one day after the Lifeguard Service finished that was on Orihuela beaches over Easter week.

The Town Hall explained the Local Police came to the place of the accident in 10 minutes with a Guardia Civil patrol and they tried reanimation techniques before the security forces arrived and after until two Basic Vital Service ambulances and a Emergency Medical Service one arrived, the first within about 20 minutes according to a witness who spoke to Diario de la Vega.

After the medical services managed to stabilise the boy and take him to Quirón Hospital in Torrevieja, he was then taken in a helicopter to Alicante General Hospital, where he died on Wednesday.

Orihuela Town Hall put out a statement deeply lamenting the loss of the child and passing their condolences to his family.
