Golfer named Adoptive Son of the municipality in emotional ceremony

Professional golfer Miguel Ángel Jiménez (Málaga 1964), who has won countless national and international titles, had never been made an Adopted Son of a municipality until now in Rojales.

He was presented by the Mayor Antonio Pérez and Councillor Pedro Llopis with a diploma and medal in a formal and emotional ceremony that also had some more light hearted moments.

One of them was when the mayor said it was his first time as an adoptive father although “this one is all grown up and we like him like this”. and again when Jiménez said “I will always be there for you above all because I have new parents and I don’t know if I should call the mayor papa”.

Pérez said they had given him the title because the personal and professional trajectory of Jiménez would bring more glory and fame to the municipality, and golf “is a sport that trains people to be part of society and promotes health and the virtues of coexistence and social recognition”. Also because the golfer has been coming to Rojales for almost 26 years to relax, practise or play in events at its golf course “always in an unselfish and enthusiastic manner”.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez said with emotion to the councillors and numerous public who had filled the room at the Town Hall that that it was an honour which made him proud and happy.
