UK cracks down on Costa tourists’ insurance scams

New curbs on bogus holiday sickness claims The spread of fake insurance claims by Britons claiming to have fallen ill while on holiday, usually blaming supposedly unhygienic accommodation or food poisoning, has provoked severe resentment from the Spanish tourism industry, as many of the businesses which have suffered financially as a result are based along the Costas. This has led many operators to settle holiday sickness claims out of court, rather than challenge them. Industry experts believe this has been a major factor in a rise in claims which has sparked concerns that Britain’s reputation overseas is being damaged and that British tourists will face higher package holiday prices....

Agreement to allow return fares due to N-332 traffic jams A number of Orihuela taxi drivers have complained that passengers have to put up with poor service because the Town Hall has not given any new licences out since 2005, resulting in a chronic shortage of vehicles about half the number per inhabitant compared to Torrevieja. Councillor Begoña Cuartero met on Tuesday with taxi association representatives and said she knows it is a problem on the coast in the summer with so many tourists so it has been agreed with Torrevieja that drivers from  either municipality do not have...
